5 BEST SINGLE-DAY ROAD TRIPS FROM BOISE

Boise is in a great location in Idaho because there are several fun locations that are within a day’s drive there and back. Even though it is winter, these day trips are doable despite any road conditions that may exist.

Bogus Basin Ski Resort

Bogus Basin Ski Resort is a great choice to go to during any time of the year. The drive to Bogus Basin is just over 18 miles, about 45 minutes.

In the winter, people can hit the slopes, tube, snowshoe or cross country ski at Bogus Basin. Lift tickets are available for purchase online and an adult pass will cost you $73 for a full day pass. Winter tubing costs $20 for 1.5 hours and must be purchased in advance due to popular demand.

During the summer, Bogus Basin is a great way to escape the summer heat of Boise. There are several hiking trails to choose from, including Stack Rock, which offers great views and photo opportunities. You can also ride the mountain coaster, horseback ride, mountain bike or attend one of the many festivals.

McCall, Idaho

The McCall Winter Carnival is back in 2022 and the theme is “Return to our Roots.” Some events, like the Mardi Gras Parade, have been canceled this year and others have been modified to keep people socially distanced and safe.

The carnival is an iconic Idaho event and brings more than 60,000 people to McCall each year. The first McCall Winter Carnival had 248 visitors in 1924 and the official carnival started in the 1960s.

The carnival is going from January 28 to February 6, 2022. You can find a full list of events on the Visit McCall website.

Idaho Wine Country

The Sunny Slope Wine district is located about an hour’s drive west of Boise and is home to more than 13 different wineries. Several are within walking distance of each other, including Ste. Chapelle, Sawtooth Winery and Hells Canyon Winery.

Most wineries are open year-round and have beautiful views no matter when you go. The number of wineries in Idaho has increased to about 51 and many of them have produced award-winning wines.

For more information on Idaho’s wine country, head to the Idaho Wine Commission’s website.

Bruneau Sand Dunes

Bruneau Sand Dunes is located about 64 miles south of Boise and is the only place in Idaho where you can dune ski. Sandboards are available to rent from the Visitor center and people can camp at the park throughout the year. The park boasts the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America with a peak rising 470 feet about the surrounding desert floor.

Visitors can fish for bluegill in the lakes, go on a breathtaking hike or horseback ride, plan a group picnic or visit the Bruneau Dunes Observatory.

Shoshone Ice Caves

If you are a fan of the cold, the Shoshone Ice Caves are Idaho’s largest ice cages. There are seasonal tours that are safe and suitable for people of all ages. The caves are located about two hours away from Boise and there are other established caves in the area to explore. The Shoshone Ice Caves are about 1,700 feet long, 50 feet wide and 45 feet in height. With a tour guide, you will descend and take stairs to a depth of 100 feet. The cave is well-lit with LED lighting so you can see all the formations in the cave.

You can book your spot on the tour online and tours leave every hour on the hour.

No matter where you are in the home buying or selling journey, let’s discuss your options and how to get you there.
