If there is anything to love about Boise, it’s definitely the colorful sunsets we get to see during the summer. While stunning to view from anywhere, there are certainly places that people gather to take pictures more often than not.
Boise Train Depot
The Boise Train Depot is a great spot to watch the sunset because of its height above the downtown core and it’s easily accessible. The historic structure is currently closed to the public due to renovations and repairs, but you may still be able to get close enough to it to soak in the views.
The depot is one of the better spots to catch the sunset because it offers panoramic views of the city and the surrounding areas. When open, you can take an elevator up to the top of the bell tower to get an unforgettable view of the city at sunset.
It's also a great place to snap photos of downtown Boise below, as it faces the Idaho State Capitol straight on.
Kleiner Memorial park
This park in Meridian is also a favorite to catch the sunset. While it does not have much elevation, the wide open spaces with trees and scenery give a lot of good framing for your sunset picture.
The park is also easy to access, with lots of parking and benches to sit on. One person reviewing the park on Google said the views just before and during the sunset are “pretty spectacular.” Kleiner Park also has a playground, walking paths, a big pond and amphitheater, so there’s plenty of ways to spend the time before the sunset.
Simplot Hill
This hill, typically used for sledding during the winter season, is also a hot spot for families to go sunset watching. The land was donated to the state of Idaho in 2004, but it was returned to the family in 2013.
A house on the property was torn down, and now there are plans to create a new park on the hill. The park would include elements like new trails, picnic areas, a museum and water features. In the future, there will also be a hilltop pavilion to offer more panoramic views of the surrounding areas and secret ponds, according to a recent article from BoiseDev.
For now, everyone is welcome to head up to the hill on the way to Bogus Basin. It’s easily spottable, with an American flag located at the very top.
Table Rock
Of course on a list about sunsets, you can’t keep Table Rock off of it. While you do have to do the full hike now to get up to the top, it’s absolutely worth it for the views of Boise and the sunset.
There are several different trails you can take to get to the top. The main trail is a moderately challenging almost four mile loop trail that can take up to two hours to complete, with about 882 feet gained in elevation.
If you’re wanting less effort but still get the views, it’s recommended to take the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes Loop.
Camel's Back Park
Rounding out our list is the iconic Camel’s Back Park. The park is located near downtown Boise and has several different spots of varying difficulty levels to get the stunning views of the Boise skyline.
Camel’s Back also has amenities like a playground, tennis courts and picnic areas to make seeing the sunset a large event. If you’re interested in the photography aspect of the sunset, the park is a great spot to capture all the colors.
