Idaho has plenty of activities to take advantage of during the winter: Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing … the list can go on and on. But these activities don’t resonate with everyone, so here are some different things to do during the colder months.
Hot Springs
The Gem State is well known for its hot springs and some of them are well kept secrets. However, the Idaho City Hot Springs, Miracle Hot Springs and Burgdorf Hot Springs are some of the easiest accessible year round. Kirkham Hot Springs is also a good pick, but it can be harder to get to with snow on the ground.

Museums
The Boise area is rich with museums and some are close enough that you can visit several in the same day. In Boise, there is the Boise Art Museum, Idaho State Museum and the Basque museum in downtown, to name a few.
For a family affair, check out the Children Museum of Idaho and the Discovery Center. Both of these options still have things to check out for the adults, but the children get a little more engaged with some hands-on educational opportunities.
Escape Rooms
These seem to be staying in style year-round, but if you haven’t had a chance to do one yet, winter is a pretty good time. There are about seven different escape room businesses in Boise, so a good chance to check out a variety of them without getting bored.
Escape rooms have their charm because you can do them with as big of a group you want, whether it’s a solo activity, date night or something to do with your best friends. The immersive experience and problem solving opportunities that escape rooms provide is a bonding experience and a good way to kill some time when the weather is cold.
Cooking Classes
Everyone loves to eat, so why not learn how to cook something really fun and unique this year? These make for a great night and can help you learn some confidence in the kitchen while having some fun at the same time.
Season and Taste cooking school in downtown Boise is a great place to get started. With themed cooking classes, the chance to book the kitchen for a work party and also cooking classes made for the kiddos, there is something for everyone to experience the joy of cooking.
Go to a ski resort
This sounds counter productive… but there is a lot to do at ski resorts without needing to go outside and participating in snow-related activities. At Bogus Basin, you can set up for a great day inside the Pioneer Lodge, with food, drinks and coffee available to you all day. The people watching opportunities are abundant and the views up on the mountain of a snowy Boise cannot be beat.
Brundage Ski Resort has a similar set up and you’re also near McCall, which has a variety of options for shopping, eating, drinking or just checking out the good views.
